Prayers mark annual Urs of Shah-e-Hamadan(RA)

The annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Mir Syed Ali Hamadani was observed with traditional fervour today at the Khanqah-e-Moula shrine on the banks of the Jhelum in old city.
After night-long prayers (shab khawani) at the shrine that had started after ‘Isha’ prayers last night at 10.30 pm, the devotees today offered prayers and supplications at the shrine throughout the day on the Urs of the saint, popularly known as ‘Shah-e-Hamadan’.
“The devotees thronged the shrine from all over Kashmir in large numbers on the occasion of the Urs. People also offered shab khawani in large numbers last night,” said a caretaker of the shrine.
Shah-e-Hamadan is credited with having spread Islam in the Valley. The unique feature of the Urs Shah-e-Hamadan in the Valley is the reciting of Persian and Kashmiri eulogies in chorus during the religious functions. The devotees also recite ‘Aurad-e-Fatiha’ on the occasion.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had personally visited the shrine on Monday to take stock of the Urs arrangements.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president GA Mir today greeted the people on the occasion of the Urs and described it as the “most revered occasion in Kashmir”.
He prayed that the occasion would be the harbinger of complete peace, harmony and development of Jammu and Kashmir.
